KATIE THOMPSON

Katie’s practice focuses on energy and environmental law. 

LEGAL EXPERIENCE

Prior to joining McDowell Rackner Gibson in 2025, Katie worked as a law clerk for both the Bonneville Power Administration and the Public Utility Commission of Oregon. Katie also worked as a legal writing Teaching Fellow at Lewis & Clark Law School. 

REPRESENTATIVE WORK

  • Advises utilities on a broad range of regulatory and transactional matters. 

  • Assisted utility implementation of generator interconnection procedures. 

  • Advises utilities on use of securitization. 

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

  • Member of the Oregon State Bar.

  • Member of the Oregon Women Lawyers. 

EDUCATION

Katie graduated with high honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2017 with a B.S. in psychological and brain sciences and a B.A. in political science. In both degrees, Katie received Exceptional Academic Performance awards. She was on the Dean’s List, in the Letters and Science Honors Program, and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi. In addition, she was a Research Assistant for UCSB’s Energy and Environmental Transitions Lab and Political Intern for the Irish parliament in her semester abroad. 

Katie graduated magna cum laude from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2025, where she was inducted into the Cornelius Honor Society and earned certificates in Energy, Innovation, and Sustainability Law as well as Environmental and Natural Resources Law.  Throughout all three years of law school, she was a member of Animal Law Review, received a Dean’s Scholarship, and was on the Scholar List. Her capstone paper on manure biogas was published in Animal Law Review, Volume 31, Issue 1.
